Grief Groups and Counseling Services

Grief Group for Adults

Rising Sun offers an open-ended, on-going adult grief group which meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.  The group meets from 6:30 to 8:00 and includes a supper.  There is no charge for the group, but donations are welcomed and appreciated.  The adult group is facilitated by Sharon Rugg, LCSW, CT, RPT.

Grief Group for Teens

Rising Sun also offers an open-ended, on-going teen grief group for middle and high school students who have experienced the death of a friend or family member.  This group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  The group begins with pizza.  It provides teens with an opportunity to share their grief experiences and feelings through talk, games, music, arts and crafts, and other activities.  The group is led by Sharon Rugg, LCSW, CT, RPT.

School Based Grief Groups

Sharon has facilitated over 30 school-based grief groups for elementary, middle and high school students, typically 6 weeks duration.  Sharon has also responded to crisis calls for schools in her district (Cobb County, GA) as a crisis counselor for schools that have experienced the death of a student.

Private Counseling

In addition to bereavement groups, Sharon Rugg offers private grief therapy and counseling services to individuals and families.  The Center is equipped with a Play Therapy room which is particularly effective with younger children.  Home visits may be requested.
